As
part of the Herald's coverage of the Juno Cup, sports reporter
Nicole Josin got the chance to meet celebrities playing in the
game for quick interviews. Here's Jobin's interview with country
singer George Canyon:
Although
I was excited to meet one of my favourite country stars I wasn't
as nervous with him. I had talked to him on the phone before
he performed in Prince Albert earlier this year.
Question
1: How much fun was it out here tonight?
Canyon:
"It was just a blast. I talked to my son, who played novice
this year and I coached him. I asked him if he had any advice
for me. He said: 'Get in front of the net - and most importantly
have fun."
Canyon
smiled at this point, beaming with pride. You can tell he loves
his family more than any of the fame and success he has received
in recent years.
"That's
what I taught his team," said Canyon of his eight-year-old.
Me:
"The first time I saw you in concert was at Craven in 2005.
It was pouring rain and Canyon came out signing "Looks
Like a Good Day to Ride." I kinda felt bad for you that
it was raining. Was it still a good day to ride?"
Canyon:
"Of course it was. I couldn't believe all of those people
watching us in the rain. I was dry, but they were soaked."
Me:
"That was me in second row."
Canyon
laughed.
Me:
"So you wrote that song about riding, which I know you
love to do. I just learned how to ride this year. Any advice
for me?"
Canyon:
"Have confidence. The horse will sense if you don't."
