Country
star Canyon named honorary colonel at military base in Greenwood
Just
call him Colonel George Canyon.
Defence
Minister Peter MacKay has appointed the country crooner from
Nova Scotia an honorary colonel at 14-Wing Greenwood.
As
part of his duties, Canyon will be expected to help host parades
and other events at the base located in Nova Scotia’s
Annapolis Valley.
In
a statement, Wing Commander Col. Derek Joyce says the base
is thrilled the Juno Award winner has accepted the appointment.
The
position will last three years.
Canyon
will be given an opportunity to meet the military personnel
at the base when he’s formally appointed to the position
during a ceremony on Feb. 21.
"It
is an unbelievable honour to be appointed to this position,"
said Canyon in a statement. — CP
