Canyon, McCoy in running for CMA

NASHVILLE (CP) — Nova Scotia’s George Canyon and Ontario’s Jason McCoy are among nominees for the Country Music Association’s global country artist award.

Launched in 2002, the award seeks out a country star who has "furthered the popularity of country music, and brought attention to the genre, in their foreign-based territory."

Other nominees include Switzerland’s John Brack and Australia’s Adam Harvey.

The winner will be invited to accept the honour at the 2006 CMA Music Festival, to be held in June in Nashville.

Canadians have fared well in this competition. Paul Brandt is a previous winner.
